hi guys just been confirmed that my head gasket has gone on my petrol 90,so apart from the head gasket what other parts will i require?.i have seen a head gasket kit on paddocks will this contain every thing i need.

Hve you had your engine compression tested ? That should diagnose whether you have any collateral damage.

Fine but when head gaskets go there may be other damage as well, particularly but not exclusively if the car has been driven for some time with a dodgy headgasket, so a compression test on engine cylinders is sually done to diagnose whether there is anything else to worry about.

As an example I have a Saab 900 Classic convertible which does very few miles - the head gasket went five miles from home, I drove it home very carefully without the car overheating and had the engine compression tested, one cylinder wall was still thinned and I ended up having it sleeved whilst the head was off for the gasket to be done.

If your mechanic says its just the headgasket then fine, maybe he has compression tested it already, but probably best to check.

landy goes in next wednesday, and he will do a full test then, before stripping the head off,he seems to think its split between to two chambers because of the amount of white smoke its produceing.i drove the landy about 2 miles taking it easy.

Mine went on my 200tdi 2 weeks back, smoke overheating etc. Buy a full head gasket set (bout £20). Check all the air hoses and cooling hoses if they are filled with oil and water combo. Clean them all out if you can. But if you do dont start it up or it will all happen again. Appart from the gasket set, I would buy a new air filter (if all clogged up) and oil filters. Even if the air filter is not clogged, make sure you change the oil filter. And an oil change ofc :D

i recently did the head gasket on my 2.5 petrol. About 30 miles into new one, i've got mayo oil.. and lots of it.

On my journey back from work just now it's somehow exploded grey-coloured oil over the right-hand side on the inner wing, heater box etc.
