Head Gasket 300 tdi

Hi guys

Thanks for previous help. I tried to order through a friend in the UK a Gasket kit for my '96 300 tdi as a backup before another long trip. Even with the vin no. I was told there are 3 Head Gasket types for the 300. How can I find out which Gasket without removing the head. Thats a little excessive'

Just had to pull mine apart and was asking the same questions.

If you look to the injector side of the engine, you should be able to see at least some of the notches/holes roughly around piston #3. I could see 2 holes on mine but spoke to the dealer and they only stock 3 hole or no hole ones (the thickest). Advice from them was to just buy the 3 hole.

Have a search on here as there seems to be some debate about doing the job correctly and just slapping a 3 hole gasket in.
