HDC: when does it work?

Dear Officionados out there

I am new to HDC and my 07 plate Freelander. I am as yet, no experienced off-roader...

So, I tried to use HDC, in reverse, on a very slight slope, and just stalled the car. Is this because HDC only works when the vehicle has sufficient momentum not to stall?

were you reversing down the slope?

Did you have your feet off the pedals?

Have you read the manual?
