Hi there

this is probably just need tightening but im unsure how to do it on a landy but it mich be something else.

My mot is on Thursday Problem I can pull the handbrake on and there is still movement from the car but not as much as when its off (it will roll away). i have to grab the handbrake with two hands to get the last click and then its stable. and then i need two hands to release. :s im sure this will be a mot faliure. I've lived with since i bought my landy i've just always popped it into first gear. Any help and advice would be appreciated

Regards

Wappy

Look underneath at the brake drum .. there's a hex headed bolt, tighten this (clockwise) to expand the pads, anti-clockwise to release them.

I do it ny lifting one rear wheel so I can turn it, with the others chocked, someone else in drivers seat and keep adjusting the bolt and applying/releasing the handbrake until it's all OK.

There's a cable adjuster under the handbrake lever cover in the cabin, but it's a bitch to turn and I found it mostly unnecessary.

Thanks its apprecaited.

Im gonna start on this in about 2 hours time ;)

I'll probably be back with my faliure list this afterneoon ;) :D

Ahh

There is no hex Bolt??

There break pads not a drum .......:eek:

I should have mentioned i have a 200tdi 93

Im guessing i have to use the bolt in the handbrake?

Any advice is appreciated

If its the same as the 300, the drum your looking for is behind the geer box follow the prop shaft towards the back, you can't miss it. I had the same problem on my 300 and when i took the drum off the shoes were all wet and a bit oily so i cleaned them with boiling water and they were perfect...Tony

You're looking in the wrong place .. the handbrake is a drum and shoes between the transfer box and rear propshaft. Disco's have a transmission brake, not a wheel brake, which is one of the reasons it's a good idea to chock and leave them in gear when working on them.

Attached pic is page from Rave on how to adjust ...
