Hand winch or Hi-lift ?

Hi I cant afford an electric winch and all the associated kit so I cant decide wheather to get a hi-lift and chains or a tirfor style hand winch I hopefully wont be using it very often and im not concerned about the space or weight it would take up. I was consideing the bigger hi-lift or this in ebay : Draper drumless hoist/winch rope puller 4000kg+20m wire on eBay, also Winches, Lifting Tools, Industrial Tools, Business, Office Industrial (end time 19-Jan-08 22:32:26 GMT)
im currently swinging towards the latter because i think it will have more uses
i would appreciate any advice/experience people can give

I got lucky and got a hand winch 4ft high lift + electric winch for £50 off ebay

So if you can be patient there are bargins out there.

i have a jackall and a lekky winch(yet to be fitted) i wanna get a tirfor too but thems is esspensive

i got a warn M8000 off ebay for £150

tirfor for £20 with new cable

and i got a hilift for general use...

Does anybody have any experience of thoose draper hand winches ? i also noticed that there is a number of 12v portable winches on ebay I was wondering about one of them and a pulley together ? do you need to use chains with the hi lift? i heard that rope just stretches and reduces the pull of the jack?

If yer gonna use an hilift for winching learn to make prussic loops (google it) winching with an hi-lift without them is pointless.

winching with a hi-lift is pretty pointless, but if thats all you got...

tirfor it instead

if doin pay and play sites then elecy winch is the way to go, but if doin greenlane stuff then keep it to hand winch or high lift and dont get stuck (there speakin from experience). anyone wanna buy a tirfur?
