Hi folks ive heard that halfords oil is really castrol is this true as i have been given some 10w-40w so i thought i would use it in my p38 4.6 .:confused::confused::confused:
Thats a Trade secret and no-one will know, not on the shop floor anyway. Having said that, Halfords dont make their own so it will be produced by a major brand. They do sell Castrol though dont they, so they must have a contract with Castrol. Is Castrol the only recommended brand for a p38 ?

Do a Google search and depending on where you read it, Halfords oil is made by Esso, Comma and Duckhams! Could be any company. But whoever it is, it won't be the same stuff as in the branded tin, oils contain many additives in a recipe, and pretty sure Halfords will specify their own recipe which will also have a cost impact to them. However, if does have to meet minimum specifications, these will be on the pack. The old V8 needs some good old fashioned 10w40 or 10w50 oil, it was designed to run on mineral oil back in the day, and nothing's changed. I run Comma semi-synthetic in mine.

I have been told several times its comma that make halfords oil then halfords put a nice mark up on it

I've used Comma mineral 15/40 or 20/50 (depending on the indicated mileage) in my present & previous two RRC's & changed it annually/3000m intervals. Very reasonable price & the grade exceeds LR's specs.
