Just fitted some freewheeeling hubs on my pride and joy, and all went well on the near side, probs started on the off side when putting the castle nut back on. I simply could not lock the shaft as I did with the near side, eventually got it sorted but a bit worried! I could slowly turn the stub axle and see a slight movement out of the diff, but then it would just spin. Suspect a broken half shaft???? Thoughts please. I know its not an issue with the freewheelers on but I will only get 3 wheel drive in this instance if I need 4.

Many thanks

Pete

was the other wheel off the floor when you were doing this? if so, put it back on the ground and try again, it should work (either front prop turns or if in 4wd you wont be able to turn it)
if it still turns when in 4wd engaged theres a problem.
3 wheel drive wont be. if the halfshafts bust, you wont get anything at the front wheels, so its rear wheel drive all the time.
50:50 guess as to which halfshafts gone.

Yes the other wheel was on the floor, and when I did that side 4wd locked it fine. You could just see the front prop shaft turn a little when moving the offside hub, then it stopped and the hub span. so its either worn splines at the diff end or its broken, spose I'll just have to pull it out and look eh.

I see where you are coming from, but I had to lock the axle in order to tighten the castle nut on that side. I assume if you put the landy in low range and gear the shafts will lock allowing you to tighten the castle nuts, and as I am sure you are aware you cant have the hub in 4x4 and tighten the nut.

But what about the hub you weren't tightened, that you had already fitted?

Don't you just love a quoter, this is the reason I said I am talking crap and butted out.As that was the hub I was referring too.
