Anyone fancy a trip out in the Marlborough (mostly) area on May 8th? Got space for a couple of Land Rovers.
In general the trip will be suitable for standard Defenders or Series vehicles, maybe ok for other models but I don't really have experience of other models. The lanes will, hopefully, be as scratch free as possible and suitable for beginners, any lanes which look like they could be damaging we will reverse out or bypass. Of course like any trip you may well collect the odd scratch here or there.
You will need:
* Fuel
* Food
* Front and rear recovery points in case you or someone else break down
You won't need any of the following:
* Lift kits
* Over sized tyres
* Winches
* Snorkels
* Waffles boards
* Any other such things related to the above!
Start will be in Marlborough and the end point will be north of Marlborough somewhere.

Less than a week to go if anyone is interested.
Some loverly lanes round there. Most are scratchy though….
Part of the ridgeway is closed(well has been for a few years & they keep saying it’s going to open but they keep closing it)

You want to know a few lanes just shout and I may have them logged on my GPX files

Thanks for the offer of gpx files. Managed to put a route together of the least scratchy lanes.
The council seem to be in a habit of changing restrictions on the Ridgeway every year. This of course makes other lanes adjoining it dead ends. Also some of the seasonal TROs are then lifted to only allow motorbikes access the rest of the year. Annoying really as you get hoards of motorbikes in groups and barely see any other 4x4s.

Have a quick look at this thread. Send me an email address & will send over info

Well, we had a good day out laning and not a scratch in sight!
Drove a couple of lanes we haven't driven before which was nice.
Been some grading done on some of the lanes and a couple of areas have been fenced and gated. These areas were not byways anyway and were used illegally. The down side to the graded lanes is that the large minority of tossers who use the lanes just drive next to the lanes causing deep ruts next to the byway instead.
One lane we avoided due to being very overgrown and another had to many very deep muddy ruts, no chance in a standard vehicle, you would need lockers and a winch to through it.
Good day though and the weather was mostly dry.

Where abouts is the graded lane?
Is this it?

Hope they make sense to you All have deep rutted tracks running next to the graded byways. Saying that the Old Ridgeway byway although its graded its in poor condition.

a lot have been graded by chiseldon. These are open all year & get abused.
There have been a few members on here who have gone into them ruts for a play & regretted the outcome(damaged motors when left overnight waiting to get recovery)
There are plenty of lanes in that area they loop & link up. It’s a good place to see both sides of the ridgeway.

Byway near the roundabout running up to the farm is badly overgrown and has been for years by the thickness of the branches.View attachment 287937
Done these lanes 2years ago. No one uses these and I don’t mind a bit of missing paint
From where the route goes away from the footpath(standing stone) there are ruts that stopped the D3 until I said straddle them. Grass was long so you could not see much.
Get to the farm and it’s a road but leads to other lanes and over to the monument

Yes we did drive the lane 6 or 7 years ago in the 2a. A S2 did ground out in the ruts due
to having the smaller tyre size. It was summer as the farmer was out harvesting his fields.
