So, having found myself with a couple of spare hours, I decided that it was time to do the long overdue engine and gearbox oil changes that I'd had been putting off for far too long.

Now the gearbox oil hasn't been changed since I bought the landy. Having done many an oil change on various motors, I'm not usually surprised to see some swalf on the magnetic plug, but I was quite surprised at just how much came out of my landy gearbox.

Question is, should I be worried?

Also, a side question. The new oil filter came with two new washers taped to the box. One is copper, which I guess is a replacement for the sump nut one, but what's the other one for? Its silver coloured and slightly bigger than the copper one.

Looks just like mine did lol, and from what turned up from flicking threw threads on here its what they all look like, unless its never moved, although with it being a landy it prob comes as standard. :)

Most gearboxes will produce swarf, if it's very fine stuff it's unlikely to be a problem. If there are large bits in there, >1mm maybe, I'd clean it off, replace oil and look again after a few hundred miles.
