Hi, newbie to the forum so this is my first post, just after some help on an issue with my gearbox.
I have a freelander 1999 petrol, pulled away from a junction and lost all drive in all gears, initially suspected IRD had failed, as it is a common problem!
Got a tow home, removed the IRD and inspected, everything fine. Eventually found the issue to be where the splined shaft from IRD enters the gearbox had completely stripped the inside of gearbox, therefore unable to turn the IRD!
My question is, seeing as the K series engine and gearbox was originally fitted to early rover cars, is the 4 wheel drive, IRD drive in the gearbox a separate later add on part which can be replaced or is it a gearbox out, new box in job??
Hope this makes sense, I will post pics ASAP if it helps!
Thanks
Gav

take all gearbox out inspect and renew parts !!! but upto you as it as stripped for a reason so while your messing about you could have lot out and fixed also you can fit new clutch at the same time so you know everthing works right !!!!

Good idea! Is it worth while doing the clutch release bearing, I've already blown up a slave cylinder because they are notoriously stiff! Would it make a difference or is it another trait belonging to freelanders?

yes mate put a full kit in there about 60 quid so worth doing !!! also for a few pence spigot bush mate
