A question for the experts , if i may ask.

Ive got the chance of a 65k mile 3.5 carb engine out of a manual G reg Disco........ very cheap.

Am i going to have any probs ( physical or financial) getting an auto box to fit ? I dont need transfer box bit, just an autobox to fit into a trike.

Your help and experience please.

Engines are identical whether manual or auto so as long as yu get the full system from engine back, it will fit fine.

well that was quick, many thanks to you both, I feel better about forking out a ton for the motor now ! I will be advertising on here for a autobox after the new year ! Perhaps you would part with an auto Beast ?

Hi Mate,

I have a 3.5 Carb with a ZF Gearbox - it only sort of works. Basically, the engine does not have enough power to drive the ZF, min spec to drive it is the 3.5EFI.

I'm told that fitting the 3 speed from the range rover classic (before the EFI) would be the best match.

Alternatively, up the power on the carb engine with Webers or something - I'm still toying with what to do.

If you are near Somerset you are welcome to come and have a look at the installation in mine.

many thanks Rob, as mine is going in a trike perhaps the motor will have the urge to drive the box ? ( no weight involved)

Slight misunderstanding here im afraid........... thanks Beast, but what i need is an autobox without transfer box to fit my motor. Anyone know if one from an SD1 will fit ok ?

Can anyone tell me please , what a GM G223169529 auto gearbox might be out of ?
Made in Strausberg evidently.
