the gear box still a bit tight wont go in gear unless the revs are just
right !

is it worth putting an additive in the oil or is this a symtom of something
bad around the corner ? anyone know a specialist in hertfordshire ( i know
ashcrofts but I really dont want a whole new box just yet )?

Either the synchro is just about done (or there is no oil in the box, in
which case it is probably not only the synchro that is just about gone) or
the clutch is not disengaging properly, although this would probably (but
not necessarily as if I remember rightly this box has synchro on all gears
which could hide this problem) also show up when engaging gear from
stopped. I can't see adding any additive helping.

I've just found out about a Landy Rover mechanic near me who is supposed to
be good. He's certainley the closest to me so I will be heading his way at
some point in the future.

Bennington Land Rover Centre, Bennington park farm, Bennington, Herts.

I know someone who has just bought a Disco of him and he reckons he knows
his stuff.

this RR actually belonged to the owner of a non franchise landy workshop but
was sold off the forecourt of another dealership I will give them a ring
and see if it was them?
as for the gear box problem it is intermitent and goes away after the
vechile has been driven for a while so I am not in any rush ( will tinker a
little and see what happens )

After the oil warms up?
Perhaps it has the wrong oil? You might try draining it and using a full
synthetic oil. It might be worth a try rather than going straight to a
rebuild.

I changed the oil last weekend and it seemed to make the problem worse at
first but since then the problem has improved . it supposedly has a new
genuine clutch but still sometimes refuses to go into gear say 2nd to third
or fith to fourth !
when in neutral operating the clutch doesnt change the engine note mutch so
I suspect the selector mechanism especially as when I try to engage low
ratio I just get the message "sellect neutral" hmmmm need to learn to go
read the workshop manual abit more I think .
