Think the part number is UKN101000

The linkage bar that connects to the selector on the gear box, has come lose. I can pop it back on but after a few selections it pops off. Can find the part online but

a) dear as hell.

b) None seem to have it in stock.

As it seems to be a balljoint type problem, does anyone know of an aftermarket replacement, or part, or if I can send away to get rebuilt/serviced?

Have looked up some posts and references on here, but none seemed to gave come up with a reasonable answer.

Or is there a bodgit repair I can try?

Many thanks

Oh yep might be taken off another car or can you post some pictures to see if anything can be done.
At this point I am considering getting them refurbished and sell for a modest profit.

At the moment, I cant., I have a 3 Door I was trying to get MOT ready, but keep taking parts of it for the family one. So going to take the gear linkage rod of it. Then try and post pictures of the old one. Either way I am going to need a refurbished or a new one.. IS it safe to just pop the other one of, or will that risk damage to it?

Got similar problem myself, and baffled as to why there are no suppliers of this part for such a common UK vehicle, and no way to refurbish it! The AA mechanic who came out the first time it happened to me, suggested putting the finger tip from a latex glove over the linkage arm ball joint as a short term fix if it happened again before I could get the linkage rod replaced - I am currently trying to get the gear linkage rod from a Germany based company SELECTOR MECHANISM-EXTERNAL (M47 2.0L I4 16V DIESEL, MANUAL TRANSMISSION) - FREELANDER (C1) 1996-2006 (allbrit.de) who were able to ID the part under BMW M47 engine (It's still expensive (99.02 euros + P&P) but there appear to be little option!! Have had Land Rover specialist compare diagrams and it's the same part (UK PIN: UKN100980) or part 21 on attached diagram - Hope that helps; if you think of/find an alternative solution 'PLEASE' let me know

There are repair kits for other similar arrangements on other vehicles. Might be worth measuring and seeing if we can find a match??
There are also windscreen wiper repair clips to hold the ball joints on the wiper assembly on. Maybe they would fit or could be modified or a similar idea fabricated??

I sold a pair of those rods for a tenner!! Duh.....

Mine fell apart last week, so I thought I'd give this suggestion a try. I had to open up the clip by pushing it over some 10x20mm flat bar and squeezing it in the vice (the clip on the left in first picture).
Then I cut two rebates on the ball joint with an angle grinder. The clip sits quite securely and was surprisingly easy to fit on the car.
So far I've done about 50 miles in it pottering about and it's still firm. I'll probably buy some of the Muddy Mods ones eventually, but I just spent 400 quid getting it through this years' MOT so I'm a bit loathe to fork out just now.
