The last mechanical rebuild as part of the 90 refurb' was to repair and rebuild the heater box including fitting an upgraded Allisport heater matrix. I took a close look at the original heater box and realised it was going to take many, many hours to reweld, repair and modify. So I searched online for a box only replacement...they either 1. didn't exist, or 2. only came with a std matrix and existing rot points.

However, a further search on eBay and I found this :)

Now, £280 may seem a little pricey but it's far lower repair/metal forming cost than using my time + it's galvanised. The new box arrived this morning, it's far better built in the flesh than in the photos. I'll twash the outside, prime and repaint Underhood Black. Inside I'll leave galvanised, line with insulation material and fit the Alliport matrix.

I've posted this as Land Rover heater box prices are stupidly crazy for what they are and in std form do not allow for a quick change of a mullered matrix. The galvanised unit uses st/st screws to the upper box area enabling this changeover function.

The vendor, Fraser, appears to be producing these in small volume and provides excellent communications/delivery.

that’s actually pretty nice

Good find.
Looks good, if he did the fan cowls as he mentioned think he will do well. With the pair.

@payydg & @marjon , my thoughts too. Luckily my fan/snail cowl is in tip top condition and now refurbished. Some of the edge finishes are a little sharp, I guessing from the guillotine cut but these can be easily filed and radius outer corners from sharp points. I took a punt on this and am really glad I found Fraser...I'm sure he can come to the rescue of many a Landy owner with a shagged heater box who does not want to spend £700 for a piece of Chinese tin!!

So, £280 for the galvanised box, £250 for the 30% upgraded matrix = £530 all in delivered. Add a bit of twash, primer and proper Underhood Black...job done + one can always readily remove the matrix in the future;)

I’ve been looking at this before as the heater in my 90 could do with a makeover and this fits the bill nicely. And the allisport heater matrix too. Just need to get some money together to buy it now...

@tottot , that's a great idea - how does one go about to sticky this post?

+ I like the idea of when we find a one man band type supplier providing a great/much needed component and us supporting these inventive type folk
