What about cold galv spray on the outside?
I think most tanks would rust out to in wouldn’t they?

You can cover the outside with whatever you want. The diesel will preserve the inside.Its water contamination that will rot the inside.
I would never use either a galv or anodised fuel tank, and wouldn't advise anyone else to do so either!
The best thing to do is get an ordinary steel tank, and give it half a dozen coats of a good outdoor paint, then if you wish, wax it.
The internals will be protected by the fuel sloshing around
