Hi can anyone help i have a Freelander S TD4 51 plate brought it 6 months ago whilist carrying out an oil change i noticed that a previous owner had drilled a hole in the oil filler cap and then fill the drill hole with i think a peice of pan scourer. i decided to fit a new head cap and has soon as i started the engine oil pumped up the dipstick tube does any one know the problem

Yeah, your breather in the rocker cover is blocked, replace it ASAP or you'll blow the turbo and possibly the engine.

Parts are only about £25 and will take 20 mins to replace.

Thanks for that but any idea why the filler had been drilled

It was drilled to let the engine breathe.

Put the old one back on till you get the new breather or you'll cause damage.

Thanks again sorry if i sound a bit dumb i have a hynes manual but canot find any info or discription of how to replace this breather can you hepl

Here you, step by step instructions

1 remove engine cover (3 8mm bolts)
2 remove air filter cover (5 5mm allen bolts for the cover and 2 phillips screws for the pipe)
3 CAREFULLY remove the clips and return pipes off the tops of the injectors
4 undo 4 5 mm allen bolts and pull out the breather
5 replace the filter inside the housing and reassemble

Sorry, forgot to mention. You need to unplug the injectors and remove the injector wiring too (only 3 bolts)

Has a new member yesterday asking for advise of which i recived 110% can i so thank you for the help and advise you gave of which fingers x is now sorted and o.k
