Hi Guys,

The weather has finally got it's act together and Summer has arrived in Ayrshire! Great news for my Rangey's electrics that have thoroughly dried out and started behaving! However, the recent heat has made the Classic present a new problem to me.

When I walk to the rear of the vehicle there is a strong smell of petrol, on investigation, the smell is definitely coming from the fuel tank.

Now, when I started looking on the net to buy a new tank, I discovered that my car is affected by a recall on the tank whereby the plastic can crack and cause leaks (see: Recall Details for LAND ROVER - Range Rover Classic V8 and Discovery Series 1 V8)

YIPEE, surely that means a replacement tank is on the cards for free!? Perhaps not... When I called the local LR stealership, they told me the recall has already been performed on the car at another dealership. I find this very difficult to believe as the tank is date stamped from 1993 and displaying symptoms directly in line with the recall details...

Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with LR on this recall and whether they actually replaced your tank?

Cheers, Alex :)

thought when they did a recall it was only valid for something like 5 years and if you dont return in that time its well tuff
surly it cant be valid for a 20 year old motor?

Quite possibly, just off the phone with LR UK and they hadn't intimated that it was out of the recall period.

The campaign was launched May 2005 and relates to vehicles that were by then already 12 years old so I'd assume there's a big safety element to it...

It's interesting that they've recalled something so big on such old cars (and twenty one thousand of them!)

It would be really interesting to hear if anyone has had this recall done and how their dealer was with freeing the old tank from fragile and rusty brackets.
