I noticed a humming sound from the fuel pump area while driving a few days ago which has got louder today,The sound was much louder than a normal pump sound, The car drove fine untill i stoped and turned the engine off, now it turns over but will not start, is this going to be a faulty fuel pump, the sound was constant while driveing not just on start up.coming from the wheel arch area i think.
Its a late 03 td4.

Thanks

It certainly doesn't sound happy. Try changing the fuel filter & draining the sedimenter first & if it still won't start then tap the pump with a hammer or similar. if it now starts, then replace the pump. You shouldn't really hear the pump when driving along.
Some of the other guys will probably tell you how much fuel a healthy unit should pump for around 30 seconds or so operation which you can then measure.

ps your pump will likely be located under the drivers side rear wheelarch being a 2003 model

had same symtoms on 2001 td ,it was in tank pump. If you take fuel feed off LP pump under bonnet it will probably be poor supply coming out and full of air like the old Sodastream
