just got back from a 300mile motorway trip and i had some probs.

it ran spot on for ages, then suddenly started loosing a bit of power. after a min would only idle (roughly). leave it a couple of mins and it'd b spot on again for a while, then same again. now its doing it a lot more often, maybe every few miles.

wasnt doin it wen RAC got there, but thought it might b the pump. told me to keep goin and wud follow for a couple junctions. after he fu*kd off guess wot!

i was thinkin its a blockage somewhere. been running it on WVE. anyone had this prob, or know wot it might b???
(200tdi btw)

i had a prob a while back with contaminated fuel, sound pretty similar but i may be way off track.

is it happening when the engine is getting hot? and stops when the engine is cooler?
i wouldnt say it was the pump, take the fuel filter off and sediment tank off and have a look to see what the fuel is like then report back..........

ye they did ta :D

the cookin oil was ok for about 4 days, then wen i filled with diesel it started hapennin. filled about £50 since then so fuel wil b fine now and it stil doin it.
RAC man took filter off and said it looked full and normal, i asked about sediment tank and he said its a possability.
yea its wen the engines hot, but i only have to leave it a min,so its not cooled down that quick.

i'l check the sedement tank this afternoon if it looks an easy job... any other possabilities????????

is fuel filter just screw off and new one on?? or does air need to be taken out/fuel pumped through sumhow? i have one here ready to go on but werent how

sound strange that its only happening when it warms back up, maybe someone else could pick up on this??

the sediment tank is strait forward but your gonna get yer arm covered in fuel mate. its just one small 10/11mm i think. fuel filter just screw off, fill with fresh fuel, maybe a tad of injector treatment wouldnt go a miss in there and the rest in the tank, make sure you use the fresh seal on the filter aswell.

My mate had a similar problem as he'd holed his filler pipe, going off road got **** in the tank which then rusted. Where the line from the tank goes into the lift pump, undo the cover and clean the mesh filter on there. If lots of mess, your going to need your tank cleaning...

On the drivers side of the engine up near the bulkhead, you will see the fuel line from your tank going into a widget with a lever underneath it. It has another line coming out going straight to fuel filter. This widget is your lift pump, and the lever can be used for priming your fuel filter when you change it. Undo the 2 bolts on the cover.

think i'v found the lift pump, the only bolts on it are holding it to the engine,do u mean undo these,or is there meant to b summat else? theres the 2 pipes coming out the top and lever on bottom.but nothing holding a cover on... sorry for sounding thick

Oh heck, it's a 200 TDi on yours, might not be a filter built in. Have to wait for someone who knows the 200 engine a bit better - I've a 200 Defender but never had to do anything to it so far...

haha thanks anyway.. fuel filter changed and plenty of thick goo stuff come out bottom of it - hopefully that cures it. aint got time for the sediment thing today so i'l give that a go in morn.

sediment is gonna give yer a better indication of whats comming from the tank.
it wouldnt hurt to take yer injectors out and get em blasted or re jetted like it did, you want half feel the difference afterwards for very little work, this was the last thing in the fuel line when i had a similar problem and it was the icing on the cake for the running and performance of the car. dont forget to replace the injector washers when yer do it though. i have some spare if yer do the job. just start at the tank and work down the line.

good news 4 me... fuel filter seems to have cured the problem. sediment tank only had a little bit of gunge in bottom... cheers everyone

ye might do the injectors if i get time, but as usual someone wil have to talk me through it.
