Unless you know what your doing don't play in there.

sounds like you're describing the electronic connector on the side. Is that right ? You don't need to remove that to change the seal. should be all torx on top for that. Front near side bolts through both layers, and then there are 2 sets of 3 bolts for each layer.
From personal experience I wouldn't touch it unless it's leaking a lot. You can do it, but its quite fiddly putting back on.
The top half slides around on slotted bolt holes to allow adjustment of fuelling quantity. You have to get it back on in exactly the right spot or it won't run or will run bad.
If i was going to do it again, i'd build some araldite around the bolts to ensure they go back in exactly the same spot.

hi wammer's,i thought that you were able to change the seal's on these pump's is it to awkward to do,or best left alone, pat.

Don't compound your problems playing inside pump IF it's not leaking badly. If it is leaking wait until you have it running before playing with it. If you do take top off scribe line the casings, it has to go back EXACTLY where it came from. You will also have to re-engage fuel quantity servo pin. Piece of **** on bench. Bastard job on car. Don't play with electrical EDC bits unless you really have to. If you do be VERY careful there are micro wires in it that you can damage by just touching them.

even scibing the casing before removal might not ensure it goes back in the right place - because scribing would be around the washer, and the washer has some play on the bolt.

If you scribe to a straight edge set on a mark on pump body then line it back up again on refit it will be a bloody sight more accurate than guessing.
