Fuel gauge Flippin and floppin

Hell all,

Just changed my Td5 Fuel pump. Old one was whining to beat hell, still ran fine, but it was getting the dying cat death rattle.

New one has been in for about 400 miles and then my fuel gauge went back and forth as if waving goodbye. Now it's unreliable. The whine, is coming on in this one. I'm overlanding in Colorado, no power loss, just these symptoms.

Anything I should wiggle or look at in the field, or just get home and deal with it?

Anyone had this combo?

either the plug is loose on top of the fuel tank or a hair line crack in the board I have accedentially damaged one my self changing a fuel pump as the fuel sender is on a sliding lock mechanism ..could be possible a hair line crack in the board or maybe a disturbed connection in side the fuel tank

ps the when the fuel pumps screams this doesn't exactly mean the pump could be worn mine screamed like a cat aproxx 5 to 6 months ..all I did was I renewed the injector combustion washers ..and cleaned out the fuel system

combustion gasses enter the fuel system via the combustion washers this mixes with the fuel return making the pump scream as it now pumping gasses as well as fuel ( cavitation )

I let my combustion gasses go for that long eveuntally the Td5 was hard to start and when it did it would cut out of fuel when engine warmed up due to the copper washers where not sealing when warmed up resulting more and more combustion entering the fuel system

The hairline crack. This seems very plausible as the past appears extremely brittle on my top portion of the plug. Is this what you are referring too as the "board"?

i was more referring to the fuel sender board ..but if you have other brittle plugs then yes this would be a start ..this wont fix the fuel pump whine though .
check the air bleed valve inside the fuel filter housing also check the gauze screen filter located in side the cyl head just past the regulator housing

I will wait on further digging until we get back. I am ordering new fuel filter and the air bleed valve.

Update.

I think I had fuel in the female ends of the connector to the top of the fuel pump. (sloppy job, the tank was full when I pulled the old one) I cleaned them out with some pipe cleaners, and aired them. On the road trip home the fuel gauge appeared to be in working order again.

The pump appears to be fixed after I fit a new air bleed valve and a new fuel filter. She is quiet and I can actually hear the turbo again. I really appreciate the reply's.
