Hi,
I've had a knocking on the front end of my '03 TD4 for ages &can't seem to locate it. In the past I've changed track rod ends, drop links & both lower suspension arms & although there has been some improvement it's still there & now getting worse. On rough roads it sounds like something's very loose but I've had it jacked up & had a bar in every ball joint & bush & can find no play. I believe the anti-roll bar bushes are prone to knocking, but how is best to check them? is it best jacked up or on its wheels. Also noticed that the front tyres are both wearing on both edges, is it possible it's the shockers? the O/S shocker mount is squeaking a little when steering now. Just to confirm I had the VCU changed at Bell Engineering last November & the one that came off was tested & found to be OK anyway & I know it's not IRD noise.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

lol i played this game last year. Basicaly changed everything ball joints drop links arb bushes wish bones etc to no avail.Changed both dampers/ shockers sorted.I replaced the whole units top swivel mounts included seemed to make sense only doing job once.

Believe it or not, it ended up being O/S track rod end. I jacked the entire front end up this afternoon and it was soon obvious, new one fitted & knocking gone. Also found a bit of play in O/S drop link top ball joint so I'll get a pair of them ordered & change (again) & get some new tyres & re-tracked ASAP. Fingers crossed that's it.
