Hi Guys

Had some issues with my Freelander, problems starting and lack of power coming up to junctions after slowing from a steady speed.

A garage plugged it into their computer today. It seems that injector 4 has some issues, see the reports from there computer below. not sure if this means anything by its a X431 Diag report.

Test One (at idle)
Cylinder 1 18.32
Cylinder 2 22.90
Cylinder 3 20.12
Cylinder 4 1.12

Test Two (at idle)
Cylinder 1 18.92
Cylinder 2 22.60
Cylinder 3 19.92
Cylinder 4 00.52

They have said that injector 4 needs replacing.

My question, is it worth trying injector cleaner first?

How hard a job is it to replace the injector myself? Any guides available.

Many thanks in advance.

Dave

for what injector cleaner costs, it has got to be worth a try first. Quite a few peeps (me included) have had good results from miller power sport 4. try it with double dosage first and see what happens.

changing the injectors should be simple, but usually turns into a mare. there a few threads on here about how to do it, best results have usually been using a slide hammer arrangement screwed into the top of the injector.

on balance, I'd let a garage do it. If you try it and can't do it, it's then stuck on your drive and you can't drive it to a garage.

depends how brave you feel....

Howdy..

I already use MILLERS DIESEL ECOMAX FUEL TREAT CLEANER power sport 4 in the freelander, have done since i've had it. Guess no point trying anything else.

Sounds like its one of those jobs thats easy as long as it goes well.. Humm.

They are charging £260 all in, that includes the injector at £115 and the labour.

Cheers

Exactly right I changed all four of mine but I have the back up of a mobile mechanic if it all went t*ts up. Some have had total nightmares trying to remove a sticky injector.

Personally I would either try it myself or else try getting a prices of a diesel specialist.

The labour's about right for a garage, I think it books at 2.5 hours, but you could either get your injector refurbed (speak to the diesel man) or buy a recon unit for about £ 60.

P.S. I hit mine sideways with a wooden drift to break the seal (it only moves about 1mm) and then managed to lever them out with a big flat blade screw driver. Also ran a couple of tanks of double dosed millers through in the weeks before, not sure if it helped but mines an 02 with 93k on the clock so I was expecting trouble

Edit: I hit the connector so it rotates the injector, I didn't just **** the injector one
