freelander td4 (2006) fuel starvation

I have had problems with fuel starvation . Already put in new pump and filter (bought from famous four) and while problem went away for months is now back again. Problem is intermittent but always happens in most awkward situations (e.g coming home late with my wife saying get rid of this car!) The car kangaroos and engine light shows up but can usually keep it going. Local garage looked at it many times and says its fixed which is for a week or so then comes back

sounds like poss s**t in the tank getting pulled up, you put a new filter on and it blocks up again
