freelander reverse gear light problem

Hi Guys, hope all is well.
I have a 2003 freelander which I have owned for a few years now.
It seems to be playing up with putting on the reverse lights.
If I put it into reverse sometimes they work without fail, but other times they don't come on and if I move the gear stick slightly to the left or right whilst in reverse they then come on.

Is there a easy fix for this or am I looking at something bigger?

Will be glad to have any help on this.
