Hi all, new member after watching for a while now.
Having problems fitting a new front left suspension control arm, wishbone if you prefer, on a 2007 Freelander 2, I've tried ball joint first then tried bolts in subframe first but whichever way round it won't go in, I've also removed track rod end and drop link to give more movement and also tried with removing the driveshaft from the hub as well but no luck!
is there something I'm missing or is there a sequence or something to fitting this, I'm hoping some of you have done this before and can advise me as I'm out of ideas and need the car back on the road!

You might find more specific advice in the Freelander section, but you should have enough flexibility with the drop link, track rod and drive shaft all disconnected. Have you disconnected the damper at the bottom to get the drive shaft out?

Hi, thanks for your help, no I didn't disconnect the damper at the bottom, I'll take a look at that option when and if it ever stops raining!
 
Hi thanks for your reply, I took a look at the link unfortunately it's for a Freelander 1 and the 2 is a different design.
And yes I do have the wheel of !!
I'll have another crack at it when and if the rain stops!

Do you have access to a ramp or are you doing it on a driveway?
 
Did you find the answer as I'm having the same issue on my Freelander 2 :(
[Car fully jacked up on two axle stands, wheels removed]
If I bolt the subframe on first, the ball joint is then too high and I cant push the new wishbone down far enough to get the ball joint into the hub hole (anti-roll arm link disconnected) My old wishbone was far more flexable and easy to push down, the rubber bush on my old wishbone didn't apear to be worn. If I fit the ball joint on first, I can get the rear rubber end of the wishbone bolts in ok, but cant get the front single bolt to thread as the wishbone bush is at a slight angle tilting outwards fouling the top on the sub frame. Tried jacking the hub up and even tried compressing the suspension springs to help lift the alignment but the bolt still won't line up with the captive nut..Grrrrr spent a whole day trying, so close but can't get that extra little 1 to 2 mm twist on the bush to line up with the top of the subframe captive nut what ever I try (with large trusted hammer).

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening, is the correct fitting order I'm not doing correctly ??? Please help!

SORTED.....
For those who struggle with the issue I had, fit wishbone on fully first (without the ball joint in the hub) then use a 4' monster crowbar to prize the wishbone down and slide the ball joint onto the knuckle. It takes TWO people to do this and a lot of grunt!!!! How ever much I tried to put the front bolt in the sub frame the other way round, it wouldn't have lined up no matter how hard you try.. lesson learnt.
