Help!

After many happy years of Freelander 1 ownership, I decided to upgrade to a Freelander 2. I now wish I hadn't. Out of the blue the car started to randomly judder. It was as if the engine had switched off for a fraction of a second and then restarted. After much investigation the fault was identified as a crankshaft position sensor fault, which was duly fixed. A few weeks later it happened again, but escalated to the engine cutting out completely but restarting after a few minutes. Back to the garage, with the same fault diagnosed and another new CPS. Are you still with me?

A few more weeks down the line and the engine cut out but wouldn't restart. The AA recovered the car, and the fault was diagnosed as, yes you guessed it, the CPS. On this occasion it was found that the wiring had come adrift.

Yesterday it all happened again. It was after a motorway run, the engine cutting out on a roundabout. My garage has run another diagnostic. It is the CPS again but they can't find anything wrong with it as it started normally this morning. Today my mechanic said this was beyond him, but thinks it could be the ECU that's faulty.

Has anyone had this problem, and what was done to fix it please? I do a lot of miles, and am dreading getting behind the wheel again. Waiting for the AA isn't my choice of ways to pass the time!
