Freelander 2 as first car!!

Hello All,

I am thinking about getting a second hand freelander2 as my first car.. my budget is £3000-£4000... and I'm trying to get one will a full sevice history and as little miles on the clock as posible..

I am not worried about insurance as I've check this and it's not much more than any other car like a VW or Ford.. The only thing that concerns me is maintenance costs as I am told they are much higher on Land Rovers and I was wondering how much typically maintenance costs are per year compared to a standard car such as a VW polo etc..? Also should I look out for anything when buying one?

Would you guys recomend a Freelander 2 as a good solid reliable FIRST car ?

FL2 is nice. I don’t think costs should be too bad. Just don’t use main dealers. And if you are prepared to do things yourself, you can save quite a bit.

In my experience VW are not reliable and are expensive too.

Fl2, front diffs are an issue. Hoses to and from the turbo.
Ot a bad car really, keep the tyres all the same and all changed at the same time.

Like any car, keeping up with maintenance is key and keeping an eye on parts for a clue something is starting to fail and fix/replace before things go bang

Thanks all.... so if i get one in good condition with a full service history, and get it serviced regularly, keep on top of matanence.. then it shouldnt be any more expensive than any other car?

Really appreciate the advice all... any other things to know will be also greatly appreciated..

The price bracket yer looking at is the low end of what they cost so low miles won't be an option. As a first car I would say no, if you have little experiance of driving. It's a big powerful vehicle and can do a lot of damage. When peeps are new to driving they need to gain many miles of experience on the road, before driving such a big vehicle, in my opinion. Insurance will be high anorl.

Servicing costs are not much higher than a typical car. Few items to keep yer eye on like the haldex.

And the transfer box....
