Series 3 footwell repair

Yesterday I started my first foorwell repair. Since I have to do it on the street and don't want to bother the neighbours I had to do it real quiet

I bought some like that and took it down to our local garage here to get him to do it. He thought they looked a bit flimsy so he made some up out of a thicker gauge metal and welded them in. Charged me 200 Euros. He's done a good job. That was about two years ago and they still look solid and strong.

I agree they do but....
Once welded in place they become quite rigid...and..
They are the same thickness as the rest of the..
Bulkhead...
Its treatment after that also makes a big difference

Thanks for the link to the DIY garages. My land rover doesn't drive at the moment; the dashboard and steering wheel is out. I have to repair the rusty parts around the ventilationflaps and wipers first..
so I'll do that at the parking lot behind my house

it's like pulling a rotten tooth hahaha
thought I take out the radiator without moving the fan. Not that easy after all. took out the fan-cover but I think I need to take the airfilterholder out too..

I bought the panels at Paddocks. But for the smaller pieces I have a sheetsteel of 1 mm and a big scissor

A good tip is to space the splash gaurds away from the footwell with some extra nuts or washers so that any water and crud can go through the gap created.

Good advice Blackburn.....I used tap washers as spacers and stainless steel bolts so that there would be no risk of rusting.......Chris
