Evening all,

I managed to put the battery on the wrong way on my 200 tdi the other night as I was rushing and my eyesight is on the fritz.

Is the alternator fried, is there a fusible link to protect against muppets like me or do I need a replacement alternator or diode kit?

If I can fix it, I can spend the money on new glasses instead

think it could just blow the diodes.

i presume you put it the correct way, started it up and the bat warning light stayed on or some other error?

Depending on what Alt you have fitted look at getting a rebuild kit for it rather than replacing the whole alternator. If it is an A127 (check first) you can get the kit for £20 ish and that will contain replacement diode pack / regulator.

Fortunately this is a toy and not my daily driver so I'm going to take it off today if the weather behaves. Once I know the type it will make it easier to assess the task.

It did look rough from underneath but I would like the opportunity to swop out the part and have the satisfaction of rectifying this faux pas myself.
