I have an 04 FL1 td4 which has served (mostly) well for the last three years. I'm being offer $5000 as part ex on an 07 plate FL2 SE.

I'm looking for any comments (kind or otherwise) as to owning a FL2. I know most of the faults on the FL1, the chat here is full of it. I don't see much on the it's replacement - does that mean they are more reliable?

Any owners here that could give me some insight into ownership would be appreciated.

Power steering pump problems. . . . . .too exspensive . . . . .doors fall orft when wet. . . . . . .bout it really :);)

35,000 miles in 15 months on an 08 plate auto.
Never missed a beat - touch wood.
Two services, dealer changed the aircon pump clutch at the first service as they said it was noisy.
Needs new tyres.
Tows caravan like it wasn't there, then again 160 bhp out of the box.
Rubbish fuel economy if you use all the horse power :) :)

Door bottoms don't fall off but will get knocked off if you open doors in a trench! :(

More importantly some early ones had weld spatter in steering rack, if effected and it comes loose means new rack, pump, and reservoir - dealers have Tech bulletin.
A few manuals have had clutch failure which can be expensive as it is a dual mass flywheel.
When it comes to reliability it is in a completely different league to the FL1.

Very expensive to buy, nothing in the way of discounts, high residuals as there is a waiting list. Lets be serious you can buy a D3 for less than a 2 year old FL2.

Same old problem of ground clearance as FL1. Mantec do under body protection, but no snorkel available. Terrain response is good esp in snow, makes an average driver look good. Limited availability of genuine AT tyres for larger wheel sizes, then again not many people with 19" rims will be going off-road.

Have 09 Freelander 2

Fantastic car, just taken it to Dordogne for 3 weeks and it was great on the french motorways

The fuel consumption around towns is very poor, however on the open road it is pretty good

Great car
