Hi, as some of you may know I have a 04 commercial that I use for work as a telecoms engineer.

Is there any kind of racking/shelving/trays/storage systems that are made specifically for the freelander commercial?

Obviously the rear of the freelander is quite an awkward shape, even the bulkhead is angled so very hard to get generic shelving systems fitted in there.

Any ideas or pics of anyones commercial to give me an idea of storage solutions, even if home made?

Cheers, Steve

There is a LR special vehicles brochure, I have one, some good stuff for all the range from Defender 130 with cranes, to disco comms.
You're gonna pay for it though.

I have converted a comm, took great pleasure in angle grinding up the mesh bulk head.
Bulk heads are fine protecting the driver with heavy loads, I remember seeing renault van with bent bulk head. It was bent with paper lol all 2 ton of it on a pallet.

Take the bulkhead out is my advice

I do indeed have a small rack / shelving down one side. I'll take a photy for you a bit later. I got the racking for £20 off a guy on ebay, 2nd hand. 1st and last time I ever saw racking for the freelander for sale.

Mine's back the way it was originally, but depending on what I'm doing work wise, I build off of it with timber and/or unistrut to suit the needs at the time.

The mesh bulkhead is a good thing for building off of, in conjunction with the tie down rings. I just unbolt the rings and use longer bolts to get a bit of unistrut down, then build off of that, fixing the the bulkhead where possible to give rigidity and stop the whole thing toppling.

I was thinking of the same DIY approach too, using the tie downs. Can quite easily get Unistrut, zebs, threaded bar and angle brackets. Picture(s) would be ideal though.

Maybe my project for the new year.

Thanks, Steve

as promised, here is a piccy of the racking, sorry 'bout the untidy state, but just parked it up on last day of work, and haven't been near it since. first job in the morning me thinks.

hope this helps.

A friend of mine has a small company that supply modular racking and also custom built racking to suit the customers needs.

Racking

He is based in Kent, but I think the modular stuff can be posted by courier.

Thanks OP, thats cool. What is so annoying is the amount of wasted space behind any racking due to the shape of the interior.

Once the weathers better I may well get out and have a brainstorm.

One of my thoughts was too make a false floor using the rubber mat as a template. Maybe giving about 5 or 6 inches under this false floor for ladders to slide into or even a modular box on wheels. But even this would result in wasted space at the sides under the floor as would not be able to get to store stuff there!! Grrr!

Thanks again pal.
