well got the car back from mackies transmissions in glasgow after a total auto gearbox rebuild and torque converter recondition oil cooler flush and £2300 lighter in the pocket shes driving like new again a bit dearer than you boys down south but we got a 3 year or 100,000 mile warrenty which i thought was not bad would recommend mackies to anybody the service was 1st class they gave us a courtesy car free of charge. the reason the box needed rebuilt was that the brake bands were badly damaged partly due to having 109,000 on the clock the oil had never been changed by me as main dealer told me that it was a sealed gearbox and didnt need fluid changed i found out that was wrong mackies recommend fluid chages at 50,000 miles he showed me the old fluid that came out the box it was a smelly brown mess when it should have been a bright red color . mackies say about 100,000 miles is about the normal when the jatco starts to give problems not only in freelanders but jaguar, ford mondeo, nissan, and more use the jatco automatic box . i personaly will be buying a manual next time cheers and thanks for all your help at the start

Mine cost me enough for the IRD, VCU, HGF and new tyres but i'd have thought long and hard about spending that just on the gearbox.

My auto started playing up at 8k miles and was changed at 12k. :( Some you win...

Thanks for letting us know it was sorted and the cause.
