Hi there, please could you tell me whether I should be able to feel air blowing from the oil filler cap hole when the cap is removed?

I have just replaced my head gasket and was told that before I replaced it I shouldn't be able to feel any air blowing through the hole.

It's a Defender 200tdi 1991.

Thanks Terra Dog

you will have some 'air' blowing out the cap ( all engines do - called crank case pressure , as the pistons are not Air tight sealed to the cylinders ) . as long as when you hold your hand over the filler and block off the cyclone breather ( for a few seconds ) it doesnt launch your hand off with big fhut or blast off your dipstick then you got no worrys .

If it does then the engines worn ( threads here that cover it ) .

As a rough guide Mine sort of hoffs ( not the HOFF :D ) lightly out the cap and shes done 127K and runs Very sweet

Hope that sheds some light for ya :)
