Going to put BFG Muds on for some expedition use, thinking of 265/75 16.
Had this size before on other stuff and they've always been good, anyone had them in the sand (desert) before?
Any other makes better for overlanding?

Depends on were you are going, if somewere like west africa then yes i would as there is alot of mud and bog holes but if you went say east africa were the roads are better than ats would do.

can't beat 750x16 michelin XZLs for general african antics, on a set of wolf rims.

Good in the mud, not bad on the road and good for desert as they are a skinny tall tyre, deflating them gives a longer footprint which is (contraversial) much better than a wide footprint.

Also, tough sidewall so good on rocks etc.

Much under-rated, great expedition all-rounder. Wouldn't be without them.

Admittedly not very macho, and they're so skinny your landy looks a bit odd from the front or back - like a 2cv or sommat!

trying a photo of mine on XZLs...

This one's not been on a desert expedition but in the summer rescues stranded cars / boats of the beach (very very soft sand, lalmost like saharan, which fools folk who think they can drive onto the beach and launch their boat) on a weekly basis.

Had a hired Land Cruiser which was on XZLs in Tunisia and it was great on sand and rock.

You made the right choice at the start BFG MT 265/75
I used these for years in OZ Part of my business was tyre dealership, so could have anything I liked Overall BFG MT does the business
I had to recover other 4x4 on a regular basis, on all types of terrain, the only proviso to using MT on sand is air them down when you know you are going to do sand driving. Dont spin the wheels when you are getting stuck as they bury themselves real quick. They will return hi mileages on tarmac but tend to be noisy over about 60mph . They are triguard wall construction so are the most puncture resistant of all general 4x4 tyres aprt from the Mich 750r16 that was oe on 130 d/c hcpu which is steel side wall as well as tread. HTSH:)
