Hi guys,
I own a Disco 2 V8 Auto. On a short trip it overheated and I pulled off the road immediately. Approx. 9 months after this incident I took the LR for a services. Mech. called and told me that top gasket is leaking small amount of water. Replaced gasket and also lifters as this was noisy and engine was already opened.
After getting the car back it smelled funny when and after driving...a sharp burning smell. Called mech. who said that there will be spilled oil on stuff getting hot causing the smell. Ten days ago my oil light went on when I started the car again after short trip to shops. Light remained on for approx. 15 seconds and went off. Left car in my garage overnight and dipped next morning. Oil level was on Add Oil mark on stick. I was surprised as this was 2 weeks after service and gasket change, but thought maybe with big engine overhaul more oil was absorbed into system than normal.
I added two pints of oil and it dipped on Full mark. Yesterday, ten days later, dipped again after overnight in garage as I am extra careful/nervous now: Oil halfway down to Add Oil mark already...this after maybe 120km's since oil was topped off.
Now oil leaks whatsoever. This huge consumption did not start immediately after overheating a year ago, but only after gasket was replaced. I am already shopping for another vehical, but was still hoping that this can be resolved easily/cheaply. Please help.
