Erratic idling when first started

Started the P38 2.5d this morning when the revs went pretty erratic by reving up to almost 3k then dropped to almost stalling, then up again I turned off the engine, then started it again..all was fine with a nice tickover. WTF

Becm fault, air in fuel? Could be a number of thing
If its only done it once dont worry, if it starts doing it regular then start worrying!

BECM has nothing to do with engine control. Fuel quantity control solenoid, number four injector, crank position sensor. Stick it on diagnostics for a better picture, there will be a recorded fault.
