I usually select low range/reverse to climb the steepish drive on tick over then turn into the space i park in. Last night it didn't work......:(

This morning I tried again the the transfer box moved to low range and stayed there...

I removed the range selector motor and found the peg at the back of the gearbox wheel had jammed against the stop cast in to the gearbox case, and had twisted/locked the motor unit gear wheel. Freed the off the gearbox, powered up the motor from a separate battery to test it in both directions all seemed well.

Refitted the motor, now the drive motor will only select low and always jams in low, so the ECU is not receiving the stop signal from the position sensor contacts or the ECU is dead.

My questions are these:

1. According to the ETM in rave there is one common contact with 4 other position sensing pick ups points in the gearbox cover plate, are these a variable rising/lowering output that the ECU senses or are they just a straight on/off voltage.

2. There is a mention of someone repairing the contacts/tracks in the cover plate but no details....anybody care to enlighten me.

3. Does anyone have a spare selector motor/gearbox assembly, even a good blue gearbox cover plate.

4. And now the biggy, a spare ERR5882 transfer box ECU and will it have to be set up with a rovercom/testbook.

5. I have refitted the motor unit and manually selected high range (by using a separate battery), the display tells me to select neutral plus slow down if I drive the vehicle. If I continue to drive the vehicle will the BCEM show a fault code that needs to be cleared.

PS. If I have to buy a new ECU, how much is one likely to cost. Ball park figure???

if you remove the transfer motor and manually put the transfer box into high by turning the shaft, you can then make a 4 way lead (4 wires joined together, all with 6.3 males on them) push them into the harness plug where the motor unplugged, into positions 1,2,4 and 5. if you then turn the ignition on and the *select neutral* is not there, it is the transfer high/low motor at fault. if you are going to leave it like that for a while bag over the plug to stop any water getting in.

Bouncing this one.

I've been in touch with a main dealer the ECU part number has been changed from ERR5882 to AMR6460, does anyone have one on a shelf, spare or know of a good s/hand supplier??????

Plus, once fitted does it need to be hooked up to a Faultmate/Rovercom/Tesbook to be set up or is it 'Plug n Play' ecu????????????

Update. I found a s/hand selector drive motor on ebay and took a chance, I've just fitted it and problem has gone. :D :D :D

So if your vehicle doesn't select high or low range, pull off the drive unit.

If the gearwheel is hard against the cast stop and has pushed itself towards the positioning contacts in the cover, don't discount the drive unit, just because the motor operates from a seperate battery...
