engine tapping

Hi, just a thought, although I keep getting told thats not too bad for one of those, ( the BMW diesel in P38) Im getting tired of the light tapping, so- is this a fault with tese engines, is it tappets , injectors, or on the odd chance the auto flywheel to torque converter plate that may have fractured inbetween its fixing bolts. The reason I suggest this is I once came across this on a 3ltr Ford Capri Auto,???????????/ all replys welcome.
