can anyone tell me if swaping my 2.25 petrol engine for a 2.5 engine would i notice any significant improvements in performance and whats the engine like for reliability compared to the 2.25
engine swap

I used to have a 2.5 petrol motor in the Def 90 that Discomania now has as a 2.5 diesel N/A.
It went like a rocket for a 2-ton truck. In my army days we used all 2.25 petrol Landies, and they were dismal sluggish things compared to the 90 2.5 petrol. The 2.5 had a high compression engine and a huge double-choke carburettor (a Weber I think), but it could dispose of a gallon of 4-star in 12 to 15 miles easy.
Very few other drivers realised how quick it could be until too late and all they could see was the back door.
But the fuel consumption was terrible, and as a 2.5 N/A diesel it now goes more than twice as far on a gallon.
Reliability would be fine. The 2.5 motor uses a very strong block - crank - rods - pistons setup basically because it's mostly the same bits as used in the turbo diesels.
But the consumption ..... Oh My ..... and such a little fuel tank!
