Engine replacement

Hi all. How much does a 1.8 k series engine cost to buy and fit?

I have a 2005 facelift freelander 1.8 petrol. Was leaking coolant until eventually power loss on motorway with smoke coming from exhaust. AA recover guy said suspected head gasket. Towed it to a garage near home expecting to pay a few hundred for head gasket repair until garage messaged me with a picture saying it's completely gone and not fixable.

Suspect it could still be fixed. But might not be cost effective.

As for replacement engines. Depends on your budget. Full recon engines will cost a lot more than just buying a used one. Although there is risk with a used one. Or buy a used one and get the HG done on it as preventative maintenance.
