Evening all have driven about 400 miles since total rebuild and tonight when I arrived home the cap on the expansion tank was letting by - top hose was not presurised released the cap and coolant was steaming and bubbling - all the time the temp guage is bang in the middle.
Right left it to cool down disconnected top hose from rad started her up water pumping out hose so conclude that water pump ok anyone any ideas ta:(:(

Was the block tested for leaky liners or top hat liners fitted?

Coolant being expelled from tank if you release cap with engine hot is normal.

Evening gents
New liner was fitted and block tested heads skimmed and both tested. Engine runs sweet very smooth just dont understand why the cap on the expansion tank was letting by would faulty thermostat cause the coolant to boil without pressurisation ?

Right gents put the old cap back on and system pressurises drove it round the block quite hard top hose hard but still squeezable no letting by at the cap with the new cap the system didnt pressurise at all until it had been run at over 2ooo rpm so bolloxed cap I will get a new one as the old one keeps too much pressure I think so for the moment panic over didnt want to have the heads off again as it is I have a weep on one of the rocker covers and may well if going to that trouble have another look at the inlet manifold gasket at it was freezing and dark when I put it on
Gents thank you once again for your patience and help - how many times have I told people to check the last thing they did doh and mine was new cap :frusty:
