Engine oil TD5

Can someone recommend me a 5w/40 oil that's suitable for the TD5.

The engine runs quieter with 5w/40 than 5w/30 but l got bogged down with oil specifications last time, and gave up.
There seemed to be at least six choices all with warnings not to use them in certain engines.

I would google for VW pd 5/40 oil and see what comes up.
Vag have many specs of oil, I think 502 and 505 are for the pd engines whcih is what the td5 is.

I have been using various mannol oils for a couple of years now with zero issues.

Castrol, comma, halfords.

5/30, 5/40 or 10/40 for higher mileage engines.

Change it frequently. Its a 20 year old derv engine, not 2020 Aston.

+1 for PD oil, or alternatively throw some ZDDP additive in. Seen (and experienced) many a scored cam/rocker follower set on TD5's that have used 'modern' oils - and this is with frequent changing 10k and less.

That's the thing, people say they've "run it on whatever was in kicking about in the garage and it's done 200,000 miles" but it's possible to use the "wrong" oil and wreck the engine.

So long as specs right, then yes it will be fine.
I cannot read the label as to small, but if it mentions 502 etc then it will be good.

Whats the viscosity index?

I'll be buying some of that when I get paid, unless someone on here comes on and tells me my engine will blow up in 5 minutes if I us it.
