Couldn't think how to spell it ( JD influence )

Rather than move the engine mounts forward on my 90 chassis to line up the 200 engine mounts I thought maybe I could make two bits of quarter plate up and bolt them to the engine with the engine mounts then bolted to the plate a bit further back.

I've decided that the disco 200 is going in as it is with gearboxes etc so as I can use the Disco down pipe and hoses and oil cooler pipes without modification which will save me loads of money.

As I'm not the best welder in the world I thought two plates might be an alternative idea for the engine mounts.:)

Any ideas on what might be in the way

Not sure about your engine but if I could fit a rover V8 into a commer caravanette with 2 bits of angle iron you should be OK.;)

my engine mounts are plate in a channel with plate on end of it and rover engine mounts drilled and 12.9 bolts with metal lock nuts on my conversion.

This was not through choice, but rather lexus mounts hollow cast on engine.

I would recommend you do not introduce levering angles on a rubber engine mount, while a solid plate will reduce flexing- it is much better to have in line.

If your not sure on positions- make up mount and bolt to engine with it in position on engine crane.

also while not wishing to spoil the party- the disco box will require seat box cutting and gear lever will end up where centre seat box front angle is.

if you try bringing it forward as disco main gear box is longer, then you will have prop too short on front and extreme angle.

If you do use discovery box- you lose the centre seat, and need to build a transmission tunnel

The plate will be bolted solid to the engine so it will be just like bolting mounts to engine further back, should be no problem with leverage etc. The mounting will not be aware that the plate isn't bolted directly behind it on engine. disco uses some nice bits of plate so might modify those.

I have put disco engine and box in 90 before and it all fits lovely, got no centre seat anyway and its not a big job to fabricate a new hole for gearstick and fill the old one in, long stick then welded to short stub on gearbox and cranked forward so gear knob in more or less the same place as it was before.
Bonus is that disco down pipe and turbo pipes and oil cooler pipes all will fit without modification, just the rad to drop down a bit and tilt back a bit and its good to go.

Also loads of space behind engine if one wanted to run intake pipe to off side for snorkel.
