Hi everyone,

I have a 1981(X reg) Freelander 2.5 V6 auto, and has done 72k. Since couple of weeks ago, it has began to lose power specially going uphill. It slows down and sometimes will not move forward at all. On a road with a slight uphill slop, when I push on the acceleration, engine rev goes up, it roars, but it does not go above 30 miles. On a flat road, or down hill, everything seems fine. Any advice is sincerely appreciated.

one reason could be auto transmission, how long since you checked it for fluid, or did a service on it?

It was serviced about a year ago. I have not checked any fluid level, or changed the air/oil filter. Sometimes, everything seems to work fine.

You need to be checking the fluid levels regularly, once weekly is good practice for coolant, steering, brake, and transmission, it takes all of 5 minutes and will save you money and maybe your/someones life.

Check and topup all of the above, if transmission fluid is below the bottom mark, I suggest you do not drive it, get it trucked to a mechanic and have it looked at before any more damage is done, if it isn't buggered already that is.

I only drive about 5000 miles a year, and ask my mechanic to check everything whenever I take for repair or MOT. I checked the fluids today. Water, steering and brake all are in good levels. I didn't find one for the transmission though. I have a proper look tomorrow in the day light. Thanks for your advice.
