I have a problem with engine cutting out it dies down slowly and stalls my battery light is flashing and at times it reads alternator fault also alterenator is scalding hot its reading between 12.5 and 13.75 volts vehicle is starting perfect not one bit sluggish :confused2: it happened just as my bosses father said "your vehicle is running sweet" :(

Alternator shot, could be the diode pack if you feel like repairing it. You should see over 14 volts at the battery with the engine running at around 2000rpm. A dead short cell in the battery can also cause these symptoms.

the 2 things i was thinking could be wrong i have a spare alternator i will put that on tomorrow and check results if im still in trouble i will change battery also. datatek to the rescue once again thank you

update. I changed the alternator today to find that my spare (the one i fitted today) is not charging and when the vehicle was running the messages on the dash were changing from one to the other constantly and very fast and the alternator did get extremly hot . i put the old one back in and it seems to be ok not getting hot and charging at 14.08 and when lights , blowers and heated windows on its reading 13.75 . I had the battery tested and it seems to be ok. im at a loss as to what is going on

Still reckon it's likely to be the alternator unless it was a bad connection. to get hot it has to be shoving the power somewhere, usually a duff diode pack or an internal short on the windings which moving it around may have disturbed.

alternator not getting hot today but battery light stays on and it will not start charging until it gets revs up a little i have often seen this before in other vehicles but never a p38 so i think you must be correct about the alternator.
