Just got back to my house today and noticed that the rediator fan on my TD4 was going like crazy. Obviously I assumed that the engine was overheating, but as I had only driven about 5 miles thought I must have lost coolant.

In the engine compartment near the air vents on the drivers side is a clear plastic tank which used to have a red liquid inside, well its now empty and the only coolant we have at the house is dark blue in colour(it has antifreeze in it) does the colour of the liquid really matter?

Am I using the right stuff?

Halfords Anti-freeze & Coolant concentrate

Filled the tank, drove for 5 metres and then got it the car to find a nice trail of fluid across the road.

I think I might have a leak.

(sarcasm)

int there a special anti freeze fer gaylanders? red in colour and susposed to be better fer ally engines
correct as normal sir slob -Organic Acid Techno logy (OAT)

question is, where has the coolant gone?
cracked header tank (pray that it's just that) or HGF?

organic acid technology is pink/red in colour and £8.95 a litre from main dealer. Using non-oat anti freeze allegedly won't kill the engine, but then you lose the benefits of oat anti-freeze.

its more likely to be a hose joint or rad leaking ,fill it up and have a look underneath ,let us know

most antifreeze these days is suitable for most alloy engines , dont get thinking its the space shuttle and its has to be special green with tinge of yella, just read the tin for specs
