engine check light ???

when i start my diesel p38 up in a morning the engine check light comes on and when i set off it will move but very slowly until the light goes out when the revs lift past about 1000rpm then when i come to a junction and the revs drop down again it comes back on but goes back off again when i pull off. when the engine warms up it tends not to do it as much am i right in thinking no4 injector is whats causing me this problem? and also when it cold it runs a little rough and missfires a few times then its fine also i find it has got a bit more guttles can no4 injector cause this too any help i would be greatfull

You need to get the codes read.

Yep, get the codes read but injector #4 is a possible cause. Check the connector and the wires for damage.

when i bought the rangie the previous owner had rejoined the wires on injector no4 but its not the best rejoining the wires are just twisted together and wrapped with tape so i was going to put a new one on but i wanted to find out if i would cure the loss of power it seems it cant pull its own weight up a gentle slopeing hill it has been chipped which made it a little better

You are just guessing. Make sure the wires are at least connected properly and get the codes read. You will have a better idea then.
