Enabling TV in motion

Hi all

Just a quick one, does anybody know if it is possible to enable TV in motion without buying one of those wiring harnesses, is it easy to do e.g. Just grounding a wire to trick it into thinking the transmission is in park etc... It's a L322 range rover.

has it occurred to you that there might be a reason why it dun't work when ya driving??

doesnt it have the screen that allows the passenger to watch the tv but the driver cant? anyway why would you want to do that you'd end up finding the nearest ditch!

It's not so I can watch TV! :doh: in fact the TV don't work because terrestrial has gone where I live, it's so I can use the AV channel to put the playstation audio and video on the screen so the audio comes through the car speakers for the rear entertainment screens. Keeps them quiet.

Depends on the year / model L322 - if its a BMW IBus model, then yes, you can get a gadget called a Resler which you can use via software called Navcoder to enable TV in Motion and a few other programming items for the sat nav etc. If its a later model with the touchscreen, then I think toysinyourcar.com and the TV in motion lead may be the solution..

only the brand new model RR (2010 on I think) have the wacky screen, that allows the driver to see the nav screen, from his seat, but the passenger to see the tv from his seat.

Bet they'd be expensive to replace when they break...

On your model, you have to fit a module that breaks into the CAN bus feed to the Integrated head unit hidden at the back of the upper dash. However its an easy fit as it plugs in line on a more easily accessible connector near the bottom.

It works by convincing the ICE system that it is never in gear and is always in park, however this will show up on your 4x4 info display too.

Hi BBS, dont think mine has the CAN network its a 2003 based on IBUS does that make a difference?

Yea Matt, sorry got mis led by the picture and mis read your currently owned stats.
Definate big difference.

Rangiegal covered it, i got a USB one here for Development work on the Ibus, nice bit of kit.

Hi BBS if I get a resler do you just splice it line with the IBUS system for it to work?

No, the IBUS is not connected to the diagnostic socket, as it really has nothing to do with regular ECU diagnostics.
We also tend to specialise in being the first to do what no one else can or will, rather than copy what someone else already does.

Matt, check out Rolf Reslers website Rolf Resler - Homepage I think- the resler interface is pretty cheap and so is a licence for navcoder (the software it uses). Navcoder runs on your laptop and you use a USB connection from the Resler to your laptop; resler connects into the IBus at the rear of the satnav unit - there is a lot of info on the website, check it out.

If you want some friendly and knowledgeable advice, visit the BMW X5 forum, www.Xdrivers.co.uk, quite a few of the guys and gals own Reslers and will help others reprogram their cars at BMW meets - why, a Rangie could even become an honorary X5 for a while

The TV in motion stuff and the IBUS system is not to be confused with the diagnostics kit like Faultmate from BBS Guy, they are completely different and intended for entirely different purposes. Reslers cost about £40 from what I recall.

The really easy way is to use the cable from toysinyourcar, there are also cheaper but apparently sometimes dodgy ones on ebay. Otherwise, DIY with a Resler or make friends with an X5 owner who has a Resler......

I'm only ever fair and expect decent service, Colin The Rangie sits quietly on the driveway and hasn't needed diagnostics yet Irish checked it over with his Faultmate a while back. I've been working away from home and havn't had the opportunity to set the Faultmate up yet.

I'm interested in IBUS because I now have an X5 and X5s are quite well tricked up with toys, which you can add to and change about with the Resler
For a while, as you know, they shared some electronics with the Rangie.....

I think you should think about joining the support team at BBS in Cyprus Rangiegal.
Methinks it would be better than an episode of Wife Swap working with BBS guy !!!
