evening all
This write up is just for diesel models only .
As some of you are aware i own a 1999 dse and is the car used for this exapmle .
firstly i would like to start with your key fob,as you all know its a key as well an electronic fob apart from needing the key part to turn the ignition barrel the key is basicly a back up for the fob.ie if it breaks or the battery runs out.
To make sure you alarm and imobiliser are working correctly .if you lock the car with either the key or fob and unlock it with the fob only(not key) ,after 60 seconds the car will relock itself .
If you sit in the car and activate the alarm with the fob, then insert the key into the ignition barrell and try to start the car the alarm will activate (go off) and you will have ENGINE DISABLED PRESS REMOTE OR ENTER KEYCODE IGNITION TAPMER.
By pressing the unlock button on fob or entering your eka code you will disable your alarm and ENGINE IMOBILISER.This is becuase the ignition was tamperd with when the alarm was active and would be the same if your car was locked and tamperd with in any way ie door tailgate window ect but instead of ignition what ever was tamperd with, would be on the message centre.
If you are sitiing in your car and the engine is running and you switch it off even if you take the key out ,after 30 seconds you will hear a faint click inside the car turn the key and your engine will restart .Or if looking at your fob, with buttons facing you the light doesnt light or need to light up when you insert the key and restart.
However if your engine is running and you switch the engine off and remove the key (and open and close the door) after 30seconds or more you will hear a faint click when inserting key if you look at your fob with the buttons facing you and look at the red light it lights up this is becuase it has registerd the fob and will restart the engine if you fob was not working or the battery were bad it would not reconize the fob and you would not have the blink in the fob and you have ENGINE DISABLED ENTER KEY CODE. this is your eka code .
now this is with a 1999 model.and i would have the latest rf reciver.
however we have a 1998 dse this is the same as all above but instead of it reading the fob ie the light lighting up in the fob when needed, it wont you have to press the unlock on the fob as of the actions above where the fob would have been read .is this because of the old type rf reciver that i dont know.
so as you have read with the latest one it seems to do it automaticly now in the hand book it does say
occasional atmospheric conditions can reduce the effective range of fob and to move closer to rear widows and to fire fob on window if neccesery. also low batterys or changing batterys and taking longer than a minute and pressing the fob out of range too many times can make fob lose sync (not to be confused with loosing sync with becm and engine ecu) all this means your fob will not be reconised and you will have no choice but to resync fob this can only be done with alarm disarmed and good batterys by inserting in to ignition i always turn mine to pisition 1 and wait 30 seconds remove key retry the buttons if your doors lockand unlock you have resynced.and you should be able to restart
The key put in in your car turn it anti-clockwise towards boot and your indicators will flash once and lock the car turn it clockwise towards engine it will flash indicators once and un-lock car .if you turn the key clockwise again or again and again nothing will happen no more flashing lights its already open (note this!)and if you turn the key anti-clockwise again and again they will always flash with each key turn
key code 3234
Now people get confused with the flashing indicators and turns
to activate put key in door turn anticlockwise four times you will see your indicators flash four times once for each turn, now you are ready for your first number of your four digit code.
as above lets say its 3 turn the key clockwise 3 times the first time the indicator will flash the next two turns it wont flash the indicators dont worry this is normall!
sencond number2 of key code turn key anti-clockwise twice the indicators will flash twice once for each turn this is normall
third number of key code 3 turn clockwise three times the first time indicators will flash the senond and third turn they wont
fourth number of key code 4 turn anti-clockwise four times indicators will flash for each turn.
after fourth number turn key back to center and then turn clockwise to engine and disarm alarm and imobiliser.
remember the key in the center any turn anti-clockwise or clockwise and back to the centre counts as one turn. I forgot to say whenever engine disabled message show you will not be able to spin your engine untill disarmed
